Findings

Sagittal T2 image(1) of the left temporomandibular joint in closed mouth position shows anterior subluxation of the articular disc. In the open mouth sagittal PD image(2) the articular disc remains anteriorly subluxed while the condylar process and articular eminence remain aligned. Synovial effusion of the left temporomandibular joint is noted in the coronal T2 image(3). Sagittal images of the right temporomandibular joint (4 and 5) demonstrate normal position of the articular disc in the closed and open mouth positions respectively.

Diagnosis

Anterior subluxation of the articular disc of left temporomandibular joint with synovial effusion.
