42 year old male patient presented with history of marked sudden abdominal distension, guarding and fever
Scan findings and diagnosis
Axial non-contrast CT scan shows marked ascitis(top-left). Axial CECT image of upper abdomen(top-right) image reflects hypodense lesion in right lobe of liver with internal membranes that are seen prolapsing through the lateral defect, better delineated in the coronal image(bottom-left). Bottom right image indicated thickening and enhancement of the peritoneal lining with ascitis. No intraperitoneal cystic lesion was noted in this patient.
Diagnosis - Ruptured liver hydatid cyst resulting in peritonitis and marked ascitis
Thanks.
